Big Old Tree 05:40
Shade me Big old tree You're much older than me You're climbing up into the sky This is your song Not mine Sing to me Big old tree With sunbeams shining through your leaves When they're gone in wintertime Who will sing your song? Well I can try Take me Big old tree Your roots they're growing very deep Bury me here when I die And we will song your song Just you and I

Passengers in time Lost in motion Locked together Day and night by trick of light I must take another journey We must meet with other names We must meet with other names You touched my heart so sweetly You rescued me Now free me Don't watch me cry Just see me go I'll take away the strongest feelings you will ever know There will be no more isolation in our secret separation You touched my heart so deeply You rescued me Now free me We are matching spark and flame Caught in endless repetition Life will... life will be the same I must leave before you burn me I'm the stranger who deserts you only to love you in another life Passengers in time Lost in motion Locked together Day and night by trick of light I must take another journey We must meet with other names If you hold me you will hurt me Now be brave There will be no more isolation in our secret separation You touched my heart so deeply You rescued me Now free me I'll bear one precious scar that only you will know is there (we're passengers in time) Now free me I'll bear one precious scar that only you will know is there (passengers in time) Now free me I'll bear one precious scar that only you will know is there (passengers in time)

Ah....living the broken life Nobody ever told me: "When you touch down There will be a hole That you must crawl out of And all the people down there They'll never let you go" Living the broken life I'm living the broken life Spinning 'round in circles With all my friends Some they float away (hey!) Should I do that too? You know that I want to I think of it every day While..... Living the broken life I'm living the broken life Wake me when it's over This really bad movie Sign me up for progress In my hand, your key of gold Follow your instruction to the letter But I can't find the door Take me to the doctor Her little slip of paper will take me back home Livin' the broken life I'm livin' the broken life I'm livin' the broken life I'm livin' the broken life Livin' the broken life but it's alright

And when I die and when I'm gone There'll be one child born and this world to carry on Well I'm not scared of dying and I don't really care If it's peace you find in dying well then let the time be near If it's peace you find in dying when the dying time is here Then bundle up my coffin 'cuz it's cold way down there Yeah, crazy cold way down there And when I die and when I'm gone There'll be one child born and this world to carry on Hey! Well my troubles they are many They're as deep as well I swear there ain't no heaven and I pray there ain't no hell Swear there ain't no heaven and I pray there ain't no hell But I'll never know by livin' only my dying will tell Yeah only my dying will tell And when I die and when I'm gone There'll be one child born and this world to carry on Give me my freedom for as long as I be All I ask of living is to have no chains on me All I ask of living is to have no chains on me All I want from dying is to go naturally Yeah, only want to go naturally Don't want to go by the devil Don't want to go by the demons Don't want to go by Satan Don't want to die uneasy Just let me go naturally And when I die When I'm dead, dead, dead and gone There'll be one child born and this old world to carry on To carry on

Take me down your stairs Lead me to your room Cut off all my hair Let me seed your womb Reach out and grab me when I wander You know my sky is grey But it don't rain like it should I don't know why you stay I'm only glad that you do Reach out and grab me when I wander Throw your rope around me 'cuz I'll wander Help me with this weight I'm not as strong as you I fought my way through the day I come home black and blue So reach out and grab me when I wander Throw your rope right around me 'cuz I'll wander Lady open up all the way Let that baby scream Keep her warm and safe Help her find her dream 'Cuz I don't mean to stray Don't mean to be hurting you This body, it's just full of rage And I can't help what I do So reach out and grab me when I wander Throw your rope right around me 'cuz I'll wander Tie me up, you may have to Put me under Put me under Put me under Put me under

Special Thanks to Brett Bixby & Bill "Big Willy" Lanham

Extra special thanks to everyone who helped make this record, most importantly Marty Beal, whose magic makes it all sound way better than I ever thought possible. (You rock, Marty!)

As well, a bow and a wave of thanks to the original artists who wrote the songs covered on this record. Some of you are long dead but your music lives on.

This record....heck, both of these records... are dedicated to my friend Reid Maxwell, who kept after me until I finally joined him at Burning Man-- an experience which lifted my soul out of the thick brambles of my past & changed my life permanently for the better. To my friend Dave Shea, who first put the idea in my head that there might actually be something worthwhile going on with me banging away on a Mandolin. And to the Kern Valley Mountain Jammers, who provided the time & friendly space for me to explore what I could do-- among them one very soulful 'Nam war veteran, Jim Seger, who once raised his eyebrows upon hearing me sing and got me thinking "Am I good?" Without you all in my life, I may never have thought it was in me to do this.

Also of crucial importance & greatly worthy of mention in the context of art/music creation: The late, great Art Janov whose astoundingly courageous and outrageous form of therapy did for me what nothing else could.

about

my stillborn dream Bodfish, California

Kidnapped, blindfolded and bound with cheap silver duct tape by a gang of meth-cookin' hillbillies, Arliss Lost was transported to an unknown, foul-smelling location and tossed into a dark, dank basement. Given only a waste bucket & meager daily portions of roadkill jerky, he was forced to "make some got-dam music for everbuddy and don' be tryna get y'self up heer til its dun!"
And so, heertiz.
